San Antonio Addys 2022

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proven by many scientists.

Every semester I get the same comments from my students regarding design competitions:

“Why should I enter the competitions?”

“It’s so expensive!”

“Do you think my work is worth it?”

“What if I don’t make it?”

“You’ll never know if you do not try.” It is my typical response. I always remind my students that in design, agencies and designers are always competing: they are always in the fight—lucha—to get the next best client, to increase sales, to retain their talent, to produce the best work, to be the best, and they—the students—are competing to get a job.

¿Miners or Luchadores?

Finally, this year the Legacy79 miners were stoked to walk away with seven Gold Addys and the coveted Best of Show Award. We’re humbled and beyond blessed to have such a great team and client partners. Congratulations to all the winners at this year’s event and ¡Viva la Lucha!

I will never get tired of saying this. Still, the feeling of participating and winning awards alongside the Legacy79 miners and my students cannot be described with words, especially when life sparks some surprises, such as the one that night at the after-party. We got to meet the legendary Playmaker—Michael Irvin #88 from the Dallas Cowboys.

What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight—it’s the size of the fight in the dog.
