DOCTOR ED NEWTON • CBC LEAD PASTORI am an award-winning designer and educator, currently teaching Graphic Design in the Department of Art and Art History at Baylor University. With over two decades of experience, I began my career in 2002 at Equilibrio in Mexico City and later co-founded Contrasto Group, a studio specializing in editorial design and corporate marketing. After earning my M.F.A. in Communication Design from Texas State University in 2012, I established Genaro Design, a boutique branding agency in San Antonio. Since 2020, I have been part of the Legacy79 family, known as a proud 79 miner.
My journey in philanthropy began with community service activities at Shriners Hospitals for Children in the late ’90s. Community service is a core part of who I am. I have been dedicated to supporting various cause-based non-profit organizations throughout my career. Consequently, over the years, I’ve worked with national and international companies and non-profit organizations, which has led to recognition from prestigious organizations such as The American Advertising Federation, Graphis Press, and LogoLounge.
Teaching is a joy for me, and I love sharing my passion for design with students. I feel blessed and fortunate that I found this calling and can teach and design for a living. Outside of work, I’m a foodie who enjoys good wine, grilling, and outstanding cuisine; espresso is a daily necessity. I love exploring new cultures; Toledo, Spain, is my favorite city. A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, I also have a soft spot for the Denver Broncos. I am a member of the Community Bible Church in San Antonio and enjoy contemporary Christian music. My wife, two boys, and our Australian Labradoodle, Red, keep me busy and inspired when I’m not teaching, reading, cooking, or designing. Finally, sailing in Cancún, Mexico, during the summers is becoming a fantastic memory maker for my family.
